Top Staubli FAQs with Jim White

Can I mix MC4 brands on one connection?

No. Staubli's safety instructions say never mate its connectors with another manufacturer's, and IEC and UL standards require same brand pairs. Cross mating risks corrosion, arcing, and fires, and the installer carries the liability.

Are genuine Staubli MC4 connectors worth it?

Yes. The original MC4 is certified to UL 6703 at 1500V and up to 50A, IP68 sealed when mated, and proven across more than half of the world's installed solar capacity.

Do I need the Staubli crimping tool?

For a certified connection, yes. Staubli approves only its own tools for assembly, and the MC4 tool kit covers 14 to 8 AWG. A generic crimper leaves you with an unapproved assembly.
